Go Math is …

please insert adjective of your choice….

I am posting the answers for our homework tonight for two reasons:

1. to help the kids and the parents

2. to get blog world’s opinion about this _______ program (again please insert adjective of your choice)

{Please remember I teach 5th grade :) }

Our objective was Order of Operations and then some Spiral Review of some of the past 11 lessons in Chapter 1… yes you may need to reread that sentence.

Below is our homework …it is 9:30 here and as I was studying for our lesson tomorrow I thought well Duh!  That’s how parents can know what’s going on silly…. BLOG ABOUT IT!  Sometimes it takes a while for the lightbulb to go off….

I took several pictures so the problems would be clear:

Fun Writing Activity

Are you like me and are looking for some fun ways to incorporate Halloween/Fall Goodness in your curriculum?  I started a bulletin board that says We’re so “Spook”tacular its Scary. Kinda had a nice ring to it, but then I was stuck!  haha I’ve done “spook”tacular work, Have a “Spook”tacular Halloween, etc. but always had lower elementary cuteness to go with it. So I brainstormed, and I pulled out a oldie, but goodie from my college creative arts class. It’s a progressive drawing. If you are not familiar with this is, it is pretty neat. The hardest part is making sure the paper is folded correctly.GDSCN2612roup kids into threes and give each kid needs one sheet of paper. Do a trifold so that it looks like an accordion. There are three rotations. We decided to draw monsters in relation to the bulletin board.

First the kids draw their own heads:DSCN2613

then fold the head back and rotate papers clockwise and everybody draws the bodies next:DSCN2618

then fold the body back and rotate the last time and draw the feet:

Then rotate it back to the original owners and Viola!  You have a monster. The hubs and I did an example for the kids…DSCN2616

We have laughed and laughed at ourselves…go ahead laugh with us!

I gave the kids 5 min. on each section. After they completed the drawings they wrote silly stories using their spelling words to go along with their “Spook”tacular Monsters.

I will post pictures of the bulletin board and the kids monsters tomorrow!

Happy Teaching!

Science Week

It seems to be science week here in blog land….I just wanted to share a few things we are doing in science and having an AWESOME time:

first we started out with a gummy bear experiment from Teachers pay Teacher to introduce the scientific method: We placed a regular size gummy bear in a cup of water overnight and the results were amazing! the kids loved it!  I don’t have any pictures from our science notebooks I will try to take some tomorrow.

happy investigating!

I Think I Can Do Better

I feel like I am not doing my students fair justice throughout the day.  I feel like there is a lot of downtime and that when my students are reading silently they are just pretending.  I am hoping to get more motivated and implement some better programs and centers for unit two of our reading series.  What do yall do for reading centers or stations?

How do you motivate students to read for real?

What is your dicipline plan?  I am using a clipy chart but im not real consistent in moving the kids up … just down….

I just need some ideas… suggestions….anything!

weekend wrap up

Homecomings galore this past weekend!  Believe it or not it has been ten years since my senior homecoming game at my high school and six years since I was on the homecoming court at UNA. The hubs and I spent the weekend visiting with old friends and cleaning up the house for my sissy Baking Shower on Sunday!  Can we say jam packed weekend?  Oh yeah and my Brat Pack friend had her precious baby Evan too!  Great weekend that hopefully will run into a great week at school.

Several of my softball girls were on the court:
